FarmLab is excited to announce our participation in the Australian Clean Energy Regulator’s recent proponent-led methodology proposals, with two key submissions focused on reducing the cost and improving the accuracy of soil carbon measurement across the landscape.
Our first submission aims to enhance spatially explicit soil carbon baselines. By introducing a variation to the 2021 soil method, this proposal seeks to increase confidence in soil carbon stock estimates, even with a lower number of measurements. This would allow a spatial model of soil carbon stocks to be used as a baseline, provided it has been localized for the specific carbon estimation area with the minimum soil samples required under the current method.
Our second submission proposes a scalable soil carbon method tailored for retiring credits against individual farm emissions. This variation to the ‘default values’ soil method allows a farm’s default value number to be generated based on the predictions of an approved model. This innovative approach enables farmers to retire any credits against their own farm’s emissions annually, offering a viable pathway for soil carbon sequestration to contribute towards achieving carbon neutrality.
These submissions reflect FarmLab’s commitment to reducing the costs of carbon measurement and driving sustainable practices in agriculture.
